This chapter explains how to get started with VoiceObjects Desktop for Web, the Web-based graphical development environment of VoiceObjects.
The VoiceObjects platform must be installed and configured - following the steps described in the Installation Guide.
On your Web server, the VoiceObjects Desktop process and the VoiceObjects Server process must be running. For more information about starting these processes see the Installation Guide or contact your VoiceObjects administrator.
i8Note: The recommended screen resolution for Desktop for Web is 1280 x 1024 pixels.
i8Note: Desktop for Web needs to be accessed with the Internet Explorer´s security level set to Medium-low or lower. In a standard Internet Explorer installation this can be achieved by adding the server running the VoiceObjects Desktop process to the Local intranet zone, as Medium-low is the default security level of this zone. To get there, start the Internet Explorer select Internet Options from the Tools menu and switch to the Security tab.
8Caution: The setting of your Internet Explorer must support cookies and popup windows while running VoiceObjects Desktop in order to be able to open the various secondary windows that are part of it.
i8Note: To profit from the caching mechanism of VoiceObjects Desktop we recommend setting the preference Check for newer version of stored pages in your Internet Explorer to Automatic. To get there, start the Internet Explorer and from the Tools menu select Internet Options. On the General tab, click Settings in the Temporary Internet Files section.
Start the Internet Explorer, enter the address of your VoiceObjects installation in the address bar, and press ENTER.
Your VoiceObjects installation address (URI) could look like
http://server:port/VoiceObjects/Desktop
where
|
server |
denotes the network name or IP address of the physical server running the VoiceObjects Desktop process, and |
|
port |
denotes the Connector Port for the VoiceObjects Desktop process. The port is set to 80 by default, but can be modified during installation and configuration. See the Installation Guide or the Administration Guide for details. If the default value of 80 is used it is not necessary to specify the port (in which case the colon must be omitted). |
Example: http://192.168.1.20:80/VoiceObjects/Desktop
The VoiceObjects Start screen will be displayed.
The Login screen will be loaded automatically after a few seconds. Click the Start screen to directly open the Login screen.
1. On the Login screen, you need to provide a user ID and password in order to log into Desktop for Web.
i8Note: After an initial installation of VoiceObjects, a single user voadmin with password manager and role Server Administrator has been created (unless the password has been changed during the installation process). For details on how to change this password and how to create a second user with Server Administrator role, which both is strongly recommended for security reasons before proceeding to work with VoiceObjects, refer to Chapter 2 – User Management – Basic Topics in the Administration Guide.

2. In the Language field, you can optionally choose a language for the user interface (at present English or German). Initially, the Language field is set to Default and default language is set to English.
3. Click Login to enter Desktop for Web.
i8Note: You can only log into Desktop for Web if an appropriate Desktop seat license is available. If a message appears telling you that no more seats are available, contact your administrator. For more information on license management within VoiceObjects see Chapter 4 – Managing Licenses in the Administration Guide.
Depending on your user role, either the Open Project window will open up upon login (for Reviewers, Designers, Service Controllers, Site Administrators, and Server Administrators), or you will get straight to the main Desktop window (for Site Controllers and Server Controllers).
For more information on the different user roles see Chapter 2 – User Management – Basic Topics in the Administration Guide.
To exit Desktop for Web right after having logged into it, click Exit in the Open Project window.
To exit Desktop for Web after having selected a project and entered the main Desktop window, open the File menu and click Exit.
i8Note: You need to clearly log out this way (instead of just closing the browser window) to return the Desktop seat license. For more information on Desktop seat licenses see Chapter 4 – Managing Licenses in the Administration Guide.
